Today is Wednesday. I went to Curves and I saw my ladies. I really enjoy going most mornings during the week and I think its amazing the people I meet while working out beside them.
While I was going through the circuit one fabulously fit lady and I were talking about what it is like to move to another country. These days people are moving all over the world for a variety of reasons. It would be great to have a place to find a good local deli, doctor, dentist, even a programmer, honest trades people, baby and maternity wear, quality promotional gear delivered with great service and a smile, etc. Sometimes business development is one of the key things to settling into a new area, being able to network and develop contacts is important to feeling comfortable.
I came up with the idea of gathering a collection of local information, with positive, encouraging things to be said about local business people one deals with. As happens with good ideas someone else thought of it first. I found a website called Word of Mouth on the Web , truelocal.com.au, and a couple of others, but I noticed they were able to leave negative comments. Maybe.... we can connect another way, by encouraging good business practice, celebrate service that goes beyond the norm, and list them on the "Your Friends Business" page.
Whether you have moved to Dubai, London, Los Angeles (particularly) or Wagga Wagga

, you know you can find some helpful information in your new neighborhood. But what are the things that concern you about moving - or if you have already moved - about life in your new neighborhood. What sort of help do you look for on the web?My daughter is going to a formal with "the boy" (not "boyfriend" - her quotes!!), and we had to find the right dress. This entailed her going on the internet and googling
formal dresses. Fortunately she found the best one, it is absolutely beautiful (this was confirmed by the numerous searches around Brisbane) and as an added bonus it was nearby. In fact it was very close and they had the best dresses in Brissie. The ladies were very helpful and arranged for the dress in the right colors to be brought down from the Sunshine Coast. The shop is called Hills in Hollywood. They also have a register so that a same dress isn't worn to a formal.
My husband and I were talking about his passion for bringing home "treasures". The last one being a large box on a trailer. I nearly had kittens. So today I said he has an "Obsession for Possessions"!
So, what are the sorts of things you do when you move or travel to feel more comfortable in new surroundings?
